SMS Opt-In & Consent

How Yupsies collects and handles consent to send text messages.

How opt-in works

Yupsies is a tool for organising activities with friends. Hosts add contacts by phone number and send a personal opt-in text before any activity invitations are sent. No one receives activity messages without first replying YES to an opt-in request.

The opt-in message

The first text a contact receives is an explicit opt-in request sent by the host, for example:

Hey Sarah! Martin wants to hang out with you — would you be down to get a text when they're doing something cool so you can join? Reply YES to be in or NO to skip.

The contact must reply YES to opt in. Replying NO opts them out immediately. No activity messages are sent until a YES is received.

What messages are sent after opt-in

After opting in, contacts receive SMS notifications when the host creates an activity they are invited to. Each message includes the activity name, date, location, and a prompt to reply YES to join or NO to skip.

Message frequency varies depending on how often the host organises activities. Standard message and data rates may apply.

How to opt out

Contacts can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message. They will receive a confirmation and no further messages will be sent. They can also reply NOto any opt-in or activity invite to decline without fully unsubscribing.

Additional information

Yupsies is designed exclusively for personal use among people who already know each other. Hosts are real individuals — friends, family members, or acquaintances — coordinating real-world activities like hikes, dinners, or sports with their existing social circle. This is not a marketing platform and is not used for cold outreach, lead generation, or contacting strangers. Every contact a host adds is someone they have a personal relationship with and have chosen to invite. The opt-in message itself is written in the host's own voice and addressed to someone who already knows them, making the context clear to the recipient from the very first message.
